What does IPX actually mean?
IP stands for Ingress Protection. The number after IPX rates how well a device resists water specifically. (The “X” just means no separate dust rating was tested.) The higher the number, the more water protection you get.

Important: waterproof isn't the same as swim-proof
Even IPX7 earbuds are rated for fresh water, briefly. They are not designed for:
- Swimming or prolonged submersion.
- Saltwater (the ocean) or chlorinated pools — rinse with fresh water if exposed.
- Hot water or steam (a hot shower can exceed the rating).
Let them dry fully before putting them back in the charging case.
